CCNA VTP SIM Question

(Updated from real CCNA exam on Mar-13-2010)

Question:

This task requires you to use the CLI of Sw-AC3 to answer five multiple-choice questions. This does not require any configuration.
To answer the multiple-choice questions, click on the numbered boxes in the right panel.
There are five multiple-choice questions with this task. Be sure to answer all five questions before leaving this item.

ccna_vtp_sim_question

Notice: All the images in this VTP LAB are used for demonstration only, you will see slightly different images in the real CCNA exam

Question 1:

What interface did Sw-AC3 associate with source MAC address 0010.5a0c.ffba ?

a) Fa0/1
b) Fa0/3
c) Fa0/6
d) Fa0/8
e) Fa0/9
f) Fa0/12

Answer: Fa 0/8

Explanation: to find out which interface associated with a given MAC address, use the show mac-address-table command. It shows the learned MAC addresses and their associated interfaces. After entering this command, you will see a MAC address table like this:

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_1

From this table we can figure out that the MAC address 0010.5a0c.ffba is associated with interface Fa0/8

Question 2:

What ports on Sw-AC3 are operating has trunks (choose three)?

a) Fa0/1
b) Fa0/3
c) Fa0/4
d) Fa0/6
e) Fa0/9
f) Fa0/12

Answer: Fa0/3, Fa0/9 and Fa0/12

Explanation: Use the show interface trunk command to determine the trunking status of a link and VLAN status. This command lists port, its mode, encapsulation and whether it is trunking. The image below shows how it works:

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_2

(This image is used for demonstration only)

Question 3:

What kind of router is VLAN-R1?

a) 1720
b) 1841
c) 2611
d) 2620

Answer: 2620

Explanation: VLAN-R1 is the router directly connected to Sw-Ac3 switch, so we can use the show cdp neighbors command to see:

1. Neighbor Device ID : The name of the neighbor device;
2. Local Interface : The interface to which this neighbor is heard
3. Capability: Capability of this neighboring device - R for router, S for switch, H for Host etc.
4. Platform: Which type of device the neighbor is
5. Port ID: The interface of the remote neighbor you receive CDP information
6. Holdtime: Decremental hold time in seconds

Sample output of show cdp neighbors command:

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_3_2

One thing I want to notice you is "Local Intrfce" in the image above refers to the local interface on the device you are running the "show cdp neighbors" command

Question 4: Which switch is the root bridge for VLAN 1?

Answer: Sw-DS1

Explanation: First we use the show spanning-tree vlan 1 to view the spanning-tree information of VLAN 1

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_4

From the "Cost 19", we learn that the root switch is directly connected to the Sw-Ac3 switch over a 100Mbps Ethernet link

Notice that if you see all of the interface roles are Desg (designated) then you can confirm Sw-Ac3 switch is the root bridge for this VLAN (VLAN 1).

If you see there is at least one Root port in the interface roles then you can confirm Sw-Ac3 is not the root bridge because root bridge does not have root port. In this case, we notice that the root port on Sw-Ac3 switch is FastEthernet0/12, so we have to figure out which switch is associated with this port -> it is the root bridge. You can verify it with the show cdp neighbors command:

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_4_2

The "Local Intrfce" column refers to the interface on the switch running "show cdp neighbors" command. In this case, Sw-DS1 is associated with interface FastEthernet0/12 -> Sw-DS1 is the root bridge

Question 5: What address should be configured as the default-gateway for the host connected to interface fa 0/4 of SW-Ac3?

Answer: 192.168.44.254

Explanation:

First we have to identify which VLAN interface Fa0/4 belongs to by the show vlan command

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_4_show_vlan

From the exhibit we know that VLAN 44 is configured on router using sub-interface Fa0/0.44 with IP address 192.168.44.254/24

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_4_part_exhibit

Therefore the default gateway of the host should be 192.168.44.254

Question 6: From which switch did Sw-Ac3 receive VLAN information ?

Answer: Sw-AC2

Explanation: to view the VTP configuration information, use the show vtp status command

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_4_show_vtp_status

So we knew Sw-Ac3 received VLAN information from 163.5.8.3 (notice:the IP address may be different). Finally we use the show cdp neighbors detail to find out who 163.5.8.3 is:

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_4_show_cdp_neighbors_detail

Question 7: Refer to the exibit, SwX was taken out of the production network for maintenance. It will be reconnected to the Fa 0/16 port of Sw-Ac3. What happens to the network when it is reconnected and a trunk exists between the two switches?

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_7_new_switch

A - All VLANs except the default VLAN win be removed from all switches
B - All existing switches will have the students, admin, faculty, Servers, Management, Production, and no-where VLANs
C - The VLANs Servers, Management, Production and no-where will replace the VLANs on SwX
D - The VLANs Servers, Management, Production and no-where will be removed from existing switches

Answer and Explanation:

First we should view the VTP configuration of switch Sw-Ac3 by using the show vtp status command on Sw-Ac3

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_7_new_switch_answer_2

Notice that its configuration revision number is 5 and VTP Domain Name is home-office

Next, from the exhibit we know that SwX has a revision number of 6, which is greater than that of Sw-Ac3 switch, and both of them have same VTP Domain Name called "home-office".

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_7_new_switch_answer_1

Therefore SwX will replace vlan information on other switches with its own information. We should check vlan information of Sw-Ac3 switch with show vlan command

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_7_new_switch_answer_3

So the correct answer is D - The VLANs Servers, Management, Production and no-where will be removed from existing switches

Please notice that in the real CCNA exam you may see a different configuration revision of Sw-Ac3 or of SwX. In general, which switch has a higher revision number it will become the updater and other switches will overwrite their current databases with the new information received from the updater (provided that they are on the same domain and that switch is not in transparent mode).

Question 8:

Out of which ports will a frame be forwarded that has source mac-address 0010.5a0c.fd86 and destination mac-address 000a.8a47.e612? (Choose three)

A - Fa0/8
B - Fa0/3
C - Fa0/1
D - Fa0/12

Answer: B C D

Explanation:

First we check to see which ports the source mac-address and the destination mac-address belong to by using show mac-address-table command

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_8_1

We notice that the source mac-address 0010.5a0c.fd86 is listed in the table and it belongs to Vlan 33 but we can't find the destination mac-address 000a.8a47.e612 in this table. In this case, the switch will flood to all ports of Vlan 33 and flood to all the trunk links, except the port it received this frame (port Fa0/6). Therefore from the output above, we can figure out it will flood this frame to Fa0/1, Fa0/3 and Fa0/12.

Please notice that the "show mac-address-table" command just lists information that was learned by the switch, it means that there can be other ports besides Fa0/1, Fa0/3 and Fa0/12 belong to Vlan 33. You can use the show vlan command to see which ports belong to vlan 33

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_8_2

And we found other ports which belong to vlan 33, they are Fa0/2, Fa0/5 and Fa0/7. Our switch will flood the frame to these ports, too.

And we can check which trunk ports will receive this frame by the show interface trunk command

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_8_3

-> Port Fa0/9 will also receive this frame!

Question 9:

If one of the host connected to Sw-AC3 wants to send something for the ip 190.0.2.5 (or any ip that is not on the same subnet) what will be the destination MAC address

Answer and Explanation:

Because the destination address is not on the same subnet with the switch, it will forward the packet to its default gateway. So we have to find out who is the default gateway of this switch by using the show running-config command

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_9_1

From the output, we notice that its default-gateway is 192.168.1.254. In fact, we can easily guess that its default gateway should be a layer 3 device like a router; and in this case, the VLAN-R1 router. To verify our theory, use the show cdp neighbor detail command and focus on the description of VLAN-R1 router

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_9_2

From this output, we can confirm the switch's default gateway is VLAN-R1 router (with the IP address of 192.168.1.254). And "the interface: FastEthernet0/3" tells us that the switch is connected to VLAN-R1 router through Fa0/3 port (Fa0/3 is the port on the switch).

Finally we just need to use the show mac-address-table command to find out which MAC address is associated with this interface

ccna_vtp_sim_answer_9_3

(Notice that in the real CCNA exam the MAC address or port may be different)

And we find out the corresponding MAC address is 000a.b7e9.8360. Although there are some entries of port Fa0/3 with different Vlans but they have the same MAC address

The pictures used in this question are for reference only (you may notice that I wrote \"sample output\") and help you understand what the outputs look like. In the real CCNA exam, your outputs may be slightly different and you have to solve them with the information you gathered. So make sure you understand how to solve them, not just learn them by heart.

In real exam, the outputs of question 3 and question 4 will surely be the same. So don\'t worry!

hi 9tut,
Question4, we not sure root bridge directly connect to Sw-AC3, may be Sw-AC3 connect to root bridge through another switch, so, we can't see root bridge by #show cdp neighbors. Is it right?
thanks.
stef 10-18-2008
great job..ty
9tut 10-18-2008
To sam cobain: In this case, please notice the path cost to the root bridge is 19, which indicates this switch is directly connected to the root bridge over a 100Mbps Ethernet link
sam cobain 10-18-2008
Thanks 9tut
Great job!

hey, I've been studying for my ccna and was just under the passing score the first time. This is one of the questions that got me and I wanted to say tat this is by far one of the most helpful and detailed explainations I've seen. Thanks!
ge 11-09-2008
beginner question... but since there's so many commands to enter, does the "?" command work on the exam, or say if we enter the wrong command in and nothing shows up, are we allowed to enter another one until we remember it's the right command?

thanks guys
9tut 11-12-2008
Some reports said you can use "?" on the exam but no one guaranteed you will lose some points or not :) so my advice is you should type full commands.

If you entered a wrong command, you can enter another one (until right) without losing any points!

Add Question No 9 which i have got today in CCNA Paper ( passed it)
Which Port Sw will forward with the Destination IP Address that is not in his SUbnet.

you will give some mac addresses below and you have to identify which mac address will use as a destination Mac address for the Packet whose Ip address does not belong to same subnet ( means network changed)

I don't remeber the Mac address but i can tell you the method to find them
First run show cdp neighbor ( because we know that given ip address does not belong to same ip subnet so we have to forward our request to gateway and gateway is obiviously Router(VLAN-R1)

So we need a port in which we can find the mac address of router

Sh cdp neighbor detail don't tell mac addresses so what you have to do next

Check in which int(fa) router is connected and note that port/int/fa.

Now run sh mac-address-table command
check only that port in which router is connected

you will easily get to know that there will be only one mac address will placed in answers and it will be associated with that specific port/int/fa

Sorry for my bad english but i had got this question in my ccna paper which i passed today with 953 marks and also got this lab in the end

so be prepare this lab must ..

Thanks

Hi (tut

Yoy are such a great help, without this website, I wouldn't have passed, about this questions, I had to type "enable" first, to be able to find the answers.

the last questions No8:Out of which ports will a frame be forwarded that has source mac-address 0010.5a0c.fd86 and destination mac-address 000a.8a47.e612? (Choose three)
both Mac address were not in the table???which was very confusing, but passed any way

Thanks again.

Abdu 12-23-2008
hey guys ,, just passed ccna 976 !!!

thanx to Allah in the first place " alhamdullah الحمد لله وحده

and thanx to Allah who blessed us with sadikhov the great forum + 9 tut the great blog ,,
one new question in vtp sim question was :

if one of the host connected to sw-AC3 want to send something for the ip 190.0.2.5 "any ip that is not listed " what will be the destination MAC address

my answer was : since it is not in any of the vlans , then it will be send to the router , so the MAC will be the Router's
so i pinged the router then "show arp" command to see the MAC

please 9tut verify the question and the answer and update so ur brothers and sisters will do better in the exam
Abdu 12-23-2008
forgot to mention one other thing ,, about question 7

Question 7: Refer to the exibit, SwX was taken out of the production network for maintenance. It will be reconnected to the Fa 0/16 port of Sw-Ac3. What happens to the network when it is reconnected and a trunk exists between the two switches?

mine was that swx has lower revision number so the original vlan will override swX's
9tut 12-24-2008
The images are just use for demonstration only! But now I updated the page so no
one will be confused!
9tut 12-24-2008

nesa 01-09-2009
wait.... all of this is just one simulation on real exam????
handshake1 01-09-2009
Hi, thanks for your job!
I have a comment on question 9 |If one of the host connected to Sw-AC3 wants to send something for the ip 190.0.2.5 (or any ip that is not on the same subnet) what will be the destination MAC address|

Why we are looking for the switch'es default-gateway, since it doesn't play any role in packet trip from host. I suggest for this particular example find trunk port trough 'sh int trunk', then 'sh cdp neighb' to find what device is connected to that port. And then with 'sh mac-address table' find mac address on that port. What you will say?
9tut 01-09-2009
To handshake1: The destination address is not on the same subnet with the switch so it will forward the packet to its default gateway, not to the trunk link.

To nesa: Yes, this is a special simulation with a group of questions
handshake1 01-09-2009
handshake1
Agree. But its default gateway not the default gateway of the switch.
nesa 01-10-2009
does anybody know do we have negative points on real exam?
9tut 01-10-2009
To handshake1: Why not? It is really the default gateway of the switch.

To nesa: No, we won't get negative points.
handshake1 01-10-2009
9tut
Because when host send packet outside of local network host checks for its own default-gateway. Host can't find and use the default-gateway of the switch.
Caleban 01-10-2009
Follow up question to an earlier comment regarding Question 4:
Not specifically referring to this topology and configuration but in general if the switch you're logged into isn't connected directly to the root switch show spanning-tree will identify a root port and show cdp neighbors will identify the switch next along the path to that root switch.

What if Sw-AC1 was the root switch instead of Sw-DS1 and you could only console into Sw-AC3?

If the root switch is more than one switch away from the only switch you're allowed to log into can you identify the root switch?
9tut 01-12-2009
To handshake1: Yes, you're right. In general, we just need to find the MAC address of VLAN-R1

To Caleban: Sw-DS1 is the root switch because from the show spanning-tree command we learned that the path cost to the root switch is 19 so we can confirm Sw-Ac3 is connected directly to the root switch (over a 100Mbs Ethernet link)

If the root switch is more than one switch away from the only switch we're allowed to log into, we can not identify the root switch. But if you knew the cable type, there is a hope that you can guess who is the root switch from the path cost (but it is not always correct)
Australia 01-12-2009
Hi 9tut,

do I need to remember all commands above?

It looks quite complex, and
even I understand the Questions, but still I need to memorize the command to find out the simple answers.

Do I?
9tut 01-13-2009
Yes, you have to remember all the commands above!
Aman 01-14-2009
Hi 9tut,

Kudos for this site..
I have a problem in Ques- 2 (which ports are operating as Trunk).
The reply of SwX-AC3#show interface trunk command is differennt in Ques- 2 and Ques- 8.
In Ques- 8, one more port Fa0/3 is showing up along with Fa0/9 and Fa0/12.
Then, why are we only considering Fa0/9 and Fa0/12 for Ques-2 if we consider the fact that this command will show same results in every question.
Rufat 01-15-2009
"From the "Cost 19", we learn that the root switch is directly connected to the Sw-Ac3 switch over a 100Mbps Ethernet link"
I am sorry but I did not understand how from cost 19 you get, this is "switch is directly connected to the Sw-Ac3 "

Thank you very mach
9tut 01-15-2009
To Aman: Thank for your detection, I updated the page.

To Rufat: You should read more about STP path cost to understand more, or search on the Internet the word "STP cost"
Asad 01-18-2009
hi 9tut

In Q7.

if SwX does not have a greater revision number than SwAc3, then what will be the appropriate answer?

Does Server or Client modes affect in this situation??

Plzz Explain
amaan 01-18-2009
9tut do you have any site for CCNP (R&S) combo labs ! please help me !..
anuloma_viloma 01-18-2009
Hi,

I need help for these two questions :

* Question 5 :
Does the subinterfaces in the second exhibit are default gateway ? Why ?

* Question 9 :
Question 5 also deals about default gateway. I'm a bit confused ... What is the difference ?

Regards,
Anuloma
9tut 01-18-2009
To Asad: In that case, the correct answer is C - The VLANs Servers, Management, Production and no-where will replace the VLANs on SwX. Server or Client modes don't affect in this situation

To amaan: sorry amaan, I'll do it in the future

To anuloma_viloma:
- Yes, it is the default gateway because VLAN-R1 is used for routing between different VLANs
- Q5 is about default gateway of host, Q9 is about switch gateway

Hi,

does any one know the lab & sim in the real exam allows "?" and tab key, to get help and command auto type ?

I appreciate your help

Thx,
AS 01-31-2009
Hi 9tut,
Is the command 'show mac address-table' or 'show mac-address-table'?

Also, you configured 'enable secret xxx' in one lab sim and 'enable password xxx' in another lab sim. From the book, 'enable secret xxx' is a later version of the command. Can we use that for all questions where they ask us to configure the privilege mode password?
9tut 01-31-2009
The command is "show mac-address-table"

No, you have to use the right command as requested, they are not exchangeable
Aman 02-02-2009
9tut, asa per my knowledge,
i think the right command is Show Mac Address-Table and not show mac-address-table.
i checked it in TODD LAMMLE...
yasser 02-02-2009
hi 9tut,

Question 4,

How did u decide cost 19 means root bridge is directly connected to SW-AC3?
pls explain that question to me.
9tut 02-04-2009
19 is the cost of a 100Mbps link. Please review it in your book or search on the Internet
runiya 02-06-2009
I had this SIM on my exam today and there was NO default gateway on the switch !
I did "show running" and also did "show ip route" and both said no default gateway.
So I entered the port of the router anyway coz I knew they wanted it ( there way no option that said "no default gateway is set on the switch".

im taking my test on feb.26 any advise
Azim@ZTE 02-09-2009
guys,,
I have passed CCNA today 976/1000.

This qs was common for me.

2,4,6,7 and another qs was not common
Qs was: Through which interface SW-AC3 will forward traffic when destination address in not in same LAN.
I chose trunk and which trunk was not in negotiation mode. Out of three Trunk interface only one trunk has ON status. I chose that
one and i hope it was correct.

Thanks 9TUT.

1. DHCP - Q1/2/3/4
2.Drag & Drop
Sim
3.CCNA implementation SIM (3 routers & 1 Switch)
4.CCNA EIGRP
question - I did everything right. config #No router EIGRP 22, then changed
the EIGRP to correct AS & then advertised the networks again but was
unable to ping ethernet networks of other routers. I tried to logon to
other routers but were denied access to configure terminal. I even did
no auto summary on my router & also tried to add the network which was not
present on this router but unfortunately didn't work. i'm
still scratching my head what did i do wrong, if anyone have
suggestions please post it.
5.CCNA VTP SIm Question - BEWARE they are
getting smart , my question was little twisted the switch i had
was CLIENT & had revision number 7 ,the other switch which was removed
& added was SERVER. & had revision no 6. So Q1 was very tricky, i'm not
sure if my answer was correct or not. I answered that the added switch
would take the VLAN advertisiments from the given switch &
would update itself. Please check if anyone has good explanation for
this.

Questions from P4S# 3.22 , some of them were twisted but if your

Regarding 4 Switch are connected to each other S1-S2,S2-S3,S3-S4,S4-S1 & S1-S3, would appreciate if u could give the sketch of how it was layed out.

This would help everyone in preparation for the exam

CCNA EIGRP question.

On the routers the AS number should be same, if different u need to change it to AS # of the main router.

You need to check the advertised network address that are connected directly for by using: #sh run command.

If the network address is not in one of the router you need to add the network address (the network address between the router) to advertise.
Anonymous 02-14-2009
Raka,

Thanks for u'r inputs. I couldn't draw on this forum but if anyone would like to see the figure please go to www.drop.io/hsingh80. I have it as a simple word document. The question was how many port's would be blocked if any of the switch becomes root bridge.

Regarding EIGRP,trust me, i did chnage the EIGRP to be same AS on all routers. I did add advertise all the networks again 192.168.11.0/ 192.168.24.0. I couldn't configure the other routers because Access was denied. I did try to add the network on my main router 192.168.30.0 which was present on other routers but for some reason it was not able to ping any other network except it's own.

Waiting for input from 9tut...

also guys i think in p4s 3.22 ques 184 has incorrect ans it should be a instead of c..

PhyoPaing 02-16-2009
to 2 b ccna,

Hi 2b, I think the answer for p4s3.22 ques 184 is C.
For A, command should be " line vty 0 4 ", I think.
But not so sure, I am just a canidate. :)

To Harpreet,

Thanks for your sharing. Big thanks.

hi to all/9tut

i made a packet tracer 5 SIM for the VTP lab..not exactly the same but you can catch the idea and practice

@9tut you can also put on your side for everyone to enjoy

MOHSH5 03-13-2009
hi, I am confused about using a default gateway in the switch. I found one comment here said that when host send packet outside of local network the host checks for its own default-gateway and if the host can't find it in its configuration it use the default-gateway of the switch. I tried to do that but I found that without configuring the host with the default gateway it can't send any packet to destination address is not on the same subnet.
mohamed 03-29-2009
to fred can you add other link casue the above not correct
and he asked to a premium account
puer 04-06-2009
Hi Admin
first thank you for the great work
second

in question9
he asked for the destination MAC for an IP that is not in the same sub net, and you with three commands get the MAC address of a port on the switch

should not you get the MAC address of the interface of the router that is connected to the switch port because when iam sending a frame to my gateway the destination MAC address will be the one of the gateway that iam attached to, in that case it will be the MAC address of Fastethernet 0/0
9tut 04-06-2009
We need to find out the port on the switch and in this case, Fa0/3 is the port on the switch, not the port on the router (Fa0/0).
Muhamed 04-09-2009
thanks all , i didnot pass the exam but i will interducde for it these month again , thanks ccna-4.tk for ur reply ,, i hv to study well again

I really wished I would've looked over this lab before I sat for the 640-816. It was the second to last question on the exam, and I got all 5 answers wrong... needless to say I missed the passing mark by 18 points (Got an 807, needed 825 to pass).

I've reviewed this lab thoroughly, and I'm ready for it should it rear it's ugly head again when I retake the exam.

Thanks for your sharing!

Please could anyone explain Q5? the Show Vlan command doesn't show any information regarding sub-interfaces or default gateway?

Thanks.

Paul.
medo azhary 05-18-2009
woooow...too much better than i ever thought it would be ...nice simulation
ccbeltran2004 05-26-2009
@paul
the show vlan command will not show the information for sub interfaces, but it will show you which interface belongs to which VLAN. the diagram displayed the information about interfaces with IP addresses configured and to which VLAN they belong, but it didnt say that its the default gateway (if it did, it will already be a give away) =)
ccbeltran2004 05-26-2009

9tut admin can you please answer my question. my question is, on the real ccna exam when this vtp sim comes up, do you also get all the tables that you require to answer the questions, or do you have to manually type "show mac-table, or show vtp stat, etc.

thank you
9tut 06-17-2009
No, you have to type all the commands to get information to answers their questions. That's the reason why this lab is so hard to get full marks.

Kamran_peshawar 06-28-2009
hello joe, by the Grace of ALLAH i passed the exame CCNA (640-802) obtained 944

out of 1000, exame was so simple labs were same RIP V2 and NAT,

MCQs were same as in Pss4sure dumps, but in subnetting, VLSM,

network/ip addresses were changed so u people need to clear

concept on Subnetting, VLSM, Summerization/superneting,

but you should type full commands while sovling a LAB, so no marks

will b deduct then, try to not use TAB key almost, but one thing

more i didnt get any of the VTP SIM questions, exame was so simple

for me.. any question regarding exame u can ask me on ,

me.mcse@yahoo.com

and bundles of thanx to 9tut. which gave me alot of support and info

about exame.... thanxxx keep it up 9tut

You will not encounter all the same multichoice questions, some are different. But maybe you will get the same sims, including the NAT sim. Prepare well!

Ashley,

:: is a valid ipv6 it is equal to 0.

I suggest you to read about IPv6, because this symbol is very important. You can play with it in different ways, but there are some rules.
altnaw 08-16-2009
9tut,

In your answer to question 4, you mentioned that cost 19 means the root switch is directly connected to SW-AC3. Kindly explain how to decide?

Many thanks,
9tut 08-17-2009
19 is the typical cost of a 100Mbps Ethernet link (10Gbps: cost 2; 1Gbps: cost 4; 10Mbps: cost 100...)

Hello sirs. Is there really a penalty on not typing in the whole command (e.g "int s0/0", "net x.x.x.x", "ver 2", or "ip add" instead of "interface s0/0", "version 2" etc.) or perhaps using "?" or TAB-key ? It would really be very bad if you could possibly fail the exam just because of something so simple.

Thanks in advance and more power to this life-saving resource site.

i got this question in my exam . ...................

hahahah
wx4 @9tut 09-06-2009
Question 4: Which switch is the root bridge for VLAN 1?

From the "Cost 19", we learn that the root switch is directly connected to the Sw-Ac3 switch over a 100Mbps Ethernet link.

Sure? I do not agree with this explanation!!!

What is if the Root Bridge not directly connected? Let's say there is one more Switch between!
So you expect cost of 38 when you do the #show spanning-tree vlan1 command?
But that is not right. You only will get "19" and know from cost 19 that the next Switch (no matter Root Bridge or not!) is connected via FastEthernet.

1. get the mac-address of the Root Bridge
2. get the Port ID (example 12)

#show spanning-tree vlan1

3. verify the MAC of the Port 12 with the Root Bridge MAC

#show mac-address-table

- if they are the same u are connected to the root bridge over this port directly and can do Step 4.

4. Get the Device ID

#show cdp neighbors

notice the Device ID

but if the MACs are different!!!!!!!!!!!

you should connect to the device connected to this port and do the same procedure again until the both MAC addresses match then you found your ROOT BRIDGE

9tut i hope you agree with my explanation! correct me if i am wrong!

thx1
wx4 @9tut 09-06-2009
btw the result in Q4 is true, but not because the cost is 19!

It's because the MAC of the Root Bridge and the mac of Port 0/12 are the same! That should be the explanation.
wx4 @ 9tut 09-06-2009
SORRY MY EXPLANATION ABOVE WAS WRONG!

HERE THE SOLUTION for Q4

1.) see spanning-tree and determine the MAC of the Root Bridge and the root Port

#show spanning-tree vlan 1

Root ID Priority xxxxx
Address aaaa.aaaa.aaaa
Cost 19
Port 12 (FastEthernet0/12)

2.) Find out the IP of that device and the DEVICE ID

#show cdp neighbors detail

look for Port 12 (FastEthernet0/12)

f.e. IP is 1.1.1.1

3.) ping this IP to get the MAC address cached

#ping 1.1.1.1

4.) see the ARP table and compare MACs

#show ip arp

Internet 1.1.1.1 aaaa.aaaa.aaaa ARPA Vlan1

compare the MAC you got from Step 1.) with the MAC from Step 4.)

if they match you found the Root Bridge.

**********************************************************

If not and you know the VLAN1 managment IPs of the Switches.

ping these Switches and do Step 4!

thx.

Hey guys, I just wanted to clear up something. The issue of how to configure Ripv2 is cleared in Todd Lammle's CCNA Study Guide. If you follow the link below, and scroll down to the Ripv2 section (pg 390), Lammle clearly states that Ripv2 is a classless protocol - meaning that is sends out subnet information) however, it must be configured as a classful protocol.

If you type in the network number with the subnet, the router will automatically make the correction. This can be verified by the "show running-config" command. Also, if you scroll down to page 392 on the link below, you can see that Lammle has configured the networks using classful notation.

Here is the link:

http://books.google.com/books?id=gHR-7ogr8yEC&pg=PA390&lpg=PA390&dq=ripv2+configured+as+classful&source=bl&ots=bJ7-WgffPg&sig=eWmSCZyWgEHnA1rH19IyJf6aRas&hl=en&ei=qMLKSomvL5Do7AO3gZmnDQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=6#v=onepage&q=ripv2%20configured%20as%20classful&f=false

I hope this helps.

Also, I will be taking my test today in 4 hours. I wish everyone the best of luck and I thank you, 9tut for this fabulous resource, that you have provided for everyone.

Hi ! 9tut and all members
I just passed my CCNA exam, I got 986/1000 marks.

Some of the highlights of the exam:
NAT Lab Sim
Ripv2 Lab Sim
Frame-Relay Sim

And also a couple of normal questions that I didn't not see
during my study journey.

The exam is not too dificult. I studied Pass4sure v8.14 and Lab sims
from this Site.

Thanks 9tut, you're the man!
Oh! by the way , I would like you to give me your address I got some furniture to send you!! lol.
Peace Folks

Itrevino.
They do ask about Frame Relay? What is the question about? Thanks=)
Pat 10-24-2009
Question 8
Can someone please tell me why the frame will only be forwarded out the trunk port fa0/9 and noit 3 & 12
Pat
@pat 10-27-2009
when a switch gets a frame with a destination address not listed in it's table... it forwards the frame out every interface except the one it came in on... in this case the ports it forwards too will be limited to the VLAN (broadcast domain) they live on.
J.L.Pulido 10-27-2009
I passed!!!!!!!!!!! I made my exam yesterday in Amsterdam and got 860 points!!!!!!!!! t5hanks for the sims , great, thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get there on time, while watching the introductory video you can prepare your metal plate with the binaries, I made mine like this:

25 27 28 29 30 31 32
192 224 240 248 252 254 255
128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1

and I also made the table of 16 and 32 , you will be 100% prepared

I got a lot of summarization and like 3 extrange questions that I haven't even found them, 1 about wireless and the other 2 I don't remember.
prepare to make LAB sims like , NAT, FRAME RELAY, RIP2, DHCP, ACL's.
tab key and ? work in the sims but copy running-config starup-config has to be complete.
I found a lot of questions about VLAN and VTP.
relax and read the questions 3 times!
good luck

9tut thanks for all!! i have question about sims: is it like packet tracer where u see your mistake like i"invalid or incomplete command" so you know that you made mistake and when you correct it do you lose points for correction or...? sorry for my english :-)
9tut 11-18-2009
Yes, the simulator in the exam will tell you if you made a mistake so you can correct it. You will not lose points for this.
STP problem 11-18-2009
hi9tut i hope u can help me with these question..in p4s there are few questions about port roles and witch switch will have only 1 forw. int. i know that first we must watch the path cost for root port and designated port election but what if link have on one switch Gi int and on another fa? i know that throughput is then like both int are fa so path cost is 19 right? or 4? i dont know anymore
R1 11-19-2009
dear 9tut i learned from official academy materials and i dond have time to learn teleworker service.. ididnt see these question in p4s so i guess they are never in real exam or they can be?
9tut 11-19-2009
@STP problem: Yes, the path cost of Gi int is smaller than that of FastEthernet int. Here is the path cost for popular types of cable http://www.certprepare.com/images/BCMSN/spanningtree_cost.jpg

@R1: There is no questions about teleworker service in CCNA exam.

I just passed ICND2 today, i used P4S 2.77 204Q, everything was in there. Straight out of the test.

i had the OSPF sim and the VTP testlet/simlet

Took 40 minutes to finish with a 986, not too bad!
DAhab 12-03-2009
I jast pass the exam thank you 9tut
gaurav 12-05-2009
hey!! superme can u tell me wht kind of sims you got

i hve my exam on 7th dec
SuperMe 12-06-2009
As I said the only sims I had was the one OSPF config sim and I had a VTP testlet with 5 questions.

In the OSPF Sim I had to find the issue that was preventing OSPF from working. It was all one line in the last router, I needed to change the Network address, Wildcard Mask and also the OSPF Area.

The VTP simlet only asked 5 questions. They are all above. I think I had questions 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8

I had to do some sub-netting drag and drop questions, they were very easy. I didn't even need to do the math, just know which mask to use. For example if a class C network should have at least 110 users and waste as little address as possible, it needs to be a /25 network, there was only one /25 answer, so that had to be it.
Anonymous 12-10-2009
@SuperMe - Can you tell me if the content from the VTP sim above was also the same as in the actual exam ie. same IP addressing, Q's and A's? Thanks.

SuperMe,

Wouldn't it be a /27 (01110000) that way you would have 112 ips and after taking the network and broadcast ips you would have exactly a 110 host ips? Or, I'm I doing something wrong. I"m preparing to take an exam soon and just want to make sure I'm doing my sub-netting correctly. Thanks
voycetony 01-08-2010
Nevermind, I just figured it out. I'm sorry my mistake.

Hi Everyone.

Im stuck with question 5. What do i do after i have found fa0/4 is in vlan 44. how do i know the ip address and default gateway.

Im using the packet tracer activity posted by fred.

Also for question 4, not all the mac address are shown. hmmm?

Does anyone have the same issue
ArYuPuPu 01-18-2010
jeremy's cbt on icnd1 and icnd2 for foundation + packet tracer practice (or gns3 if u have dynamips) + 9tut.com = pass on ccna
thnx again 9tut
Damon 01-20-2010
The VTP sim is not working, at least no the one I have. The activity states that there will be NO CONFIGs to complete just finding answers.

Well, first question asks to find a specific MAC address and low and behold the MAC address is not there; to my surprise the VTP domains are not the same and the trunk between SW1 & SW3 are not active. WTF!!!

Anyone else have this issue? M I looking to deep into this and overlooking something. Please help anyone. I would really like to have this one mastered b4 EOM, when I go for the 640-802 COMPLETE. I also need the FRAME-RELAY PKT files for packet tracer, if anyone has it.

Hi all..

I have my ccna exam tomorrow, m studyin from Test inside(11.72)... and i have done simulation problems on 9tut... is it enough to crack ccna....?
zubair 03-06-2010
This simulationis quite good but there is just one problem and i wonder why no one has figured that out, that while solving the simulation using packet tracer the configuration does not comply with questions been asked. e.g. mac addresses are different qhen you run sh mac address table command.

good luck to everyone pursuing this exam.
Chamila dias 03-08-2010
In packet tracer it shows the cost for the root bridge is 19 even it direcly connected or not... Do u experiance it in multy switch environmet when PVST is enabled as Spanning tree mode ?
HIMANSHU JAIN 03-09-2010
good going tutz
Muhammad Khan 03-10-2010
@ Zubair..
yeah u are rite...the packet tracer simulation is not reflecting the senarios coz i tried that but for example in question 1 i was unable to find the mac address in the mac address table .. :)

This SIM was in my CCNA exam when i gave it three years ago...damn i ve to do it again now to recertify :S
Muhammad Khan 03-10-2010
Well infact i did that simulation again and found out that some mac addresses are assigned statically and can be seen by show run ...like for q1 and Q10 we need to use show run to find the answers....
But i dont understand why these mac addresses are not apeearing in mac table..... even when im using the command show mac-address-table static..... nywayss thanks alot guys...
Muhammad Khan 03-10-2010
@Chamila dias...
I dont understand ur question fully but cost 19 indicates that the root switch is connected to this switch via fast ethernet interface....
the key point was to look at if it has any root port to the root switch which leeds us to find the answer
Andrew 03-10-2010
I did the exam yesterday and this scenario was on it. It was almost identical.
-CHUCK- 03-11-2010
Took the exam just now. This question was there, but there was no default gateway in running-config for question 9. I couldn't figure out what port it would use for an address not in the local network. Also, the switch I was on was the root switch itself.

Hope this helps, and thanks 9TUT!!!!
Ahmed Sallam 03-15-2010
